2011 New Orleans Conference

Conference Theme: The 2011 CAERDA Conference theme is “Curriculum, Instruction, Research, and Practice in Education in the 21st Century.” Educational research is a general term for the study of educational problems with a systematic application of the scientific method. Educational research findings contribute to teaching and learning as practitioners know how to identify, understand, and evaluate these findings. At this conference, we are particularly interested in research related to (1) curriculum studies; (2) instruction; (3) educational research methods, measurement, or program evaluations; and (4) education policy. Within this broad conference theme, the conference will particularly focus on the following sub-themes:

Sub-theme 1: Curriculum studies, curriculum development or curriculum theory

Sub-theme 2: Instruction in various subject areas (for example, teaching and learning mathematics, literacy, science or ESL from Pre-k to College) and the application of educational technology in these subject areas

Sub-theme 3: Educational research methods, measurement, or program evaluations

Sub-theme 4: Education policy based on research findings

2010 Denver Conference

Conference Theme: The 2010 CAERDA Conference theme is “Examining and Applying Educational Research in Teaching and Learning”.

Sub-theme 1: Enhancing teaching and learning through the use of educational research methodology (e.g., research design and data analytic techniques to examine educational phenomena);

Sub-theme 2: Evaluating the effects of interventions or instructions (e.g., evaluation of early interventions to prevent at-risk students from academic failure);

Sub-theme 3: Educational measurement (e.g., measurement of teacher or student beliefs, testing of student knowledge or competence);

Sub-theme 4: Applying educational research in teaching and learning practice (e.g., developing research based classroom teaching practice; using student assessment data to improve teaching and learning);

Sub-theme 5: Developing educational policies based on research findings (e.g., data-driven educational policies; strategies for implementing effective educational models for interventions at a school and district levels).

 

2009 San Diego Conference

Conference Theme: The theme for the 2009 CAERDA Conference is “Educational Technology: Enhancing Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century.” Within this broad conference theme, the conference will focus on the following sub-themes:

Sub-theme 1: Enhancing teaching and learning through the use of technology (e.g., digital story, automated reading tutor, using computers in Chinese language instruction);

Sub-theme 2: Assessing the effects of using technology for instruction and learning (e.g., assessment of technology accessibility, assessment of student academic achievement or social competence, evaluation of educational computer software);

Sub-theme 3: Promoting effective technology use in distance or online learning (e.g., e-learning in foreign language, online AP courses in rural schools); and

Sub-theme 4: Examining policies and other issues related to educational technology beyond the classroom (e.g., digital divide, technological infrastructure, computer security, Internet safety for children).

2008 New York Conference

Conference Theme: The theme for the 2008 CAERDA Conference is “East Meets West: The Role of Chinese Culture and iLanguage in Global Education.” Within this broad conference theme, we are particularly interested in research in the following sub-theme areas:

Sub-theme 1: Teaching and learning of Chinese language in the U.S. and other non-Chinese-speaking nations, particularly in elementary and public schools, colleges, and universities;

Sub-theme 2: Experiences of children of Chinese immigrant families in learning and adapting to education and school systems in the U.S. and other non-Chinese-speaking nations;

Sub-theme 3: Comparative studies of teaching and learning experiences of Chinese and non-Chinese students in various academic subjects under the influence of cultures and languages. We also welcome research on these topics with not only Chinese languages and cultures but also other Asian cultures and languages.

2007 Chicago Conference

Conference Theme: The theme is “Demystifying Model Minority’s Academic Achievement: Implications of Chinese/Asian Educational Principles and Practices for a Global Learning Community.” In an era of accountability reform and increasing globalization, many educational researchers and practitioners turn to Asian cultures and educational models for inspiration. This theme provides multiple venues for a renewed interest in understanding the “Model Minority” phenomena and solicits a heightened focus on the recent advances in cross-cultural multi-ethnic educational research.
